Dean Manis’ January show at the Foundry Gallery, Works on Paper, features oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings in ink, charcoal, conte, and graphite, as well as printed media. Building on his previous two solo exhibitions at the Foundry, in January 2008 and November 2006 (“impressive” – Hill Rag), the Gallery’s inaugural 2009 show opens on New Year’s Eve day offering an intimate glimpse into Mr. Manis’ way of working. The show includes notebook sketches, studies from past and contemporary masterworks, and individual drawings and paintings developed in a contemporary/classical style on gestural/figurative themes.
