Waverly Street Gallery, formerly Creative Partners Gallery, 4600 East-West Highway, Suite 120 (entrance on Waverly St.), Bethesda, (301) 951-9441,  Tues-Sat 12-6:  March 9 - April 3: Clay, Copper, Wood & Fire, wood-fired pots by John Snyder and New Work by Gallery Artists. If your cup of tea when it comes to pottery is not cups at all, but large, dramatic pieces fired in wood-burning kilns, you’ll want to see Clay, Copper, Wood and Fire. DC resident Snyder is one of the few large-form potters in the area. He specializes in large covered jars glazed with Oribe, a copper green glaze associated with a 16th century Japanese tea ceremony master. In addition to over a dozen jars, the show will include platters, plates, teapots and tea bowls. “I try to throw pots that are pleasing to the eye, at least theoretically functional, and represent personal variations on timeless forms,” Snyder says. Snyder has been making pots for 10 years and is currently an associate at the Art League School in Alexandria. His work has previously been shown at Glen Echo Park and the Strathmore Mansion. At Waverly Street, 21 juried members offer high quality and affordable contemporary and traditional art in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, pottery, jewelry is on view.
